Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice

When we celebrate the Summer Solstice, we celebrate the sun, its light and warmth— its power. It’s the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and the point in the year when we have access to the sun’s full energy. It’s a celebration of abundance and also a time to be patient with anything still in progress and growing.

The Solstice is a fertile time, when the Earth shares her bounty. Like our ancestors, we can use this feast as a way to honor and thank the Earth for all she provides.

What seeds have you planted in your life? This is a time of illumination, when the sun has prominence in the sky, and you can see your path more clearly, including opportunities and potential challenges. It also represents a culmination of energy and a climax of sorts in your present storyline. It’s a fertile time in your life, too, and a time for the most creative expression of yourself.

At the Summer Solstice, the Sun moves into the sign of Cancer and marks the beginning of a new season. Cancer is one of four cardinal signs (along with Aries, Libra, and Capricorn), and cardinal signs emphasize initiating action and taking a step forward with intention. For the sign of Cancer, it’s taking action on behalf of whom or what you love, like a mother would do almost anything for her child. It’s this nurturing, compassionate, and protective love that compels our action during this season. No matter what sign under which you’re born, you’ll feel the Cancer vibe this season, and these themes will be prominent for you, too.

Because the North Node is in Cancer, our attention is already focused toward those themes: Family, nurturance, emotional connections, protecting what’s dear, and home. Remember, too, the Earth is home for all of us, and the Summer Solstice is a time to connect and align with the Earth.

Pluto Retrograde April 24 - October 2, 2019

When the outer planets go retrograde, we usually feel the influence on a collective level more than a personal one. The Pluto retrograde cycle lasts five months, from April - October.

Whenever inner planets (Mercury, Venus, and Mars) go retrograde, we tend to experience the influence in our day-to-day lives. The outer planets present general themes we look at as a collective. They bring us full-circle in many ways or help shift our consciousness about matters related to that planet. For Pluto, those are matters of power, desire, the unconscious aspects of the self, transmutation, and regenerative process.

Pluto retrograde is a time to reevaluate the power dynamics in your relationships. If you have been involved in a relationship that has an element of control or possessiveness, you could find ways to free yourself from those patterns, if not the relationship, itself. If you have been obsessing about a person or a past situation, Pluto invites you to surrender and let go.

Pluto helps reveal what has been hidden or to bring subconscious matters into the light. So, you could recall memories from childhood that left an imprint and still affect your relationships today. Retrograde cycles allow us to press the “rewind” button on our lives, and we get the chance to revisit the past. Sometimes, you might even have the opportunity to remake a decision, doing things differently this time around.

This is a time to heal. I advise working with a therapist or healer to face your inner demons or unpack your deepest relationship fears.

If you have been keeping a secret from your partner and it’s eating you up inside, you will feel freer coming clean during this retrograde cycle. Likewise, if you feel suspicious about anything your partner has said or done, try not to jump to conclusions. You could be picking up on something, but it might not be what it seems. Lead with curiosity, and ask questions to find out more.

This particular Pluto retrograde cycle will hopefully help us call out corruption on every level. Because Pluto is in Capricorn, we will likely see some restructuring of institutions, especially ones based on outdated patriarchal ideals. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t see more scandals coming to light over the next five months. This retrograde period feels like another time to clean house in many ways.

If you have planets around 19˚ - 23˚ of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn, you will feel this influence more intensely than others.

Warriors in a Spiritual War don't Fight

Warriors in a Spiritual War don't Fight

Within the past three weeks, I have worked with dozens of clients in my intuitive astrology practice who expressed similar sensations. Tightness in the upper back behind the heart and unexplainable anxiety. At times, individual stories can reflect a microcosm of what we are experiencing as a macrocosm or whole. So, I began to see links between their experiences and what’s happening in the world right now. My conclusion? We’re in a spiritual crisis, but there’s hope.

Conflicting collective thought forms (like beliefs, rules, and cultural norms, for example) are simultaneously tugging us back toward the past and pushing us forward into a more progressive paradigm. As the old thought forms die, new ones come to life.

We have been spiritually evolving and fast, and we are experiencing a cultural renaissance in many ways. For example, we have more access to personal development resources of all kinds, like online courses, books, workshops, and podcasts. As we deepen our understanding of human consciousness, expand our awareness about our power to manifest change, and consciously link our mind/body connections, we better understand our creative potential. Our power.

As a result of this evolution, the collective beliefs, ideas, and ways of being that have served as our culture’s guiding principles no longer resonate. We are witnessing the beginning of the end of white supremacist patriarchy, and most of our collective thought forms were rooted in that paradigm. However, the ground for new societal constructs has not yet been solidified. Therefore, we are finding root systems in our individual truth and in like-minded communities. As we transition from one paradigm into another, we have an opportunity (and a great need) for some collective healing.
