September Horoscopes

This month, we are turning back the clocks in many ways as six planets go retrograde- Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Most notable among them is messenger Mercury, the planet of communication. Mercury Retrograde Mercury goes retrograde from September 9 - October 2. During this cycle, relationships are the primary focus, including our communication styles, as Mercury starts its retrograde journey in Libra and then moves back into Virgo. Mercury in Libra wants fairness and balance. Mercury's movement backward says we have to achieve that balance by finding a way to align oppositional forces-- to experience peace as a state of equilibrium. Be willing to let go of petty differences and acknowledge other points of view.

With all of the retrograde planets, this month, we are moving back into storylines we thought were closed from 2020 and 2021. Saturn and Uranus will move back toward one another, forming a square aspect - the same one that was a big astrological theme last year. As they move toward one another, we'll feel that square again.

Looking at your life right now, is there someone representing past constructs, maybe someone who's afraid of change? We are pushing beyond the bounds of the familiar and comfortable. The influence of Uranus suggests it's in our best interest to avoid resisting change. Be willing to let go of what's just good enough to open up to all that's possible. These themes featured prominently in the Full Moon on September 10.

As the Moon in Pisces and Sun in Virgo stretch us between the wild imaginings of our unconscious self and what's practical here on earth, your inner idealist has a few things to say. It's time to come together in a ritual or creative meditation about how we can better serve the world.

Mars in Gemini acts like an instigating fire we don't know how to tame. It lasts up to the equinox on September 22. After that, Mars can find outlets for the momentum and energy bottled up while the Sun is in Virgo.

As the Sun moves through Libra late in the month, we notice what's unpleasant in our lives and desire to remedy what isn't working by restoring peace in spaces of separation. How can we become more whole? As the Sun opposes Jupiter on September 26, we could have a crisis of faith that leads us to activate hope.

At the Libra New Moon on September 25, we are more aware of the concept of what's fair. Libra is the sign of a peaceful protector and gentle warrior. It's a fierce sign, especially in the pursuit of justice. (I mean, look at Serena Williams and AOC - two Libras.)

ARIES (MARCH 21 - APRIL 19):

Yours is the first sign of the Zodiac, and you love sparking revolutionary ideas as the pioneer of the zodiac. You thrive in the initial stages of any creative endeavor or at the start of a journey when the anticipation fuels your fire. This month, though, you’re learning to enjoy the follow-through. Generate tenacity by believing in the fulfillment of your dreams.

With the Sun moving through Virgo, the sign of the editor-in-chief, this is a favorable month for decluttering and managing life’s details. Focus on fine-tuning your current projects, especially writing, marketing, or communications.

Mercury stations retrograde on September 9, making communication one of the more significant themes. During Mercury retrograde cycles, skeletons come out of the closet, making it a time to listen with compassion and understanding. Our egos like to have their way sometimes, don't they? When we recognize how our default defenses originate from our early experiences of not feeling safe in the world, we can offer ourselves a little more grace when we have our guards up in relationships.

With warrior planet Mars in Gemini, it’s a good time to be vocal, give a speech, or enter a writing contest. In relationships, remember, it’s a skill to deliver truth with kindness.

On September 22, The Sun enters Libra and casts you into the throes of love. With Mercury retrograde in Libra, there’s an emotional charge to this time of the year. It's easy to slip into a former relationship sometimes during Mercury retrograde. Be aware of how nostalgia tints our view with rose-colored lenses. Keep your feet firmly on the ground.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20):

Virgo season is a time for daily rituals, and with that in mind, I have an exercise for you to try. Each day, take note of the moments of beauty that take your breath away. Taking this a step further, can you identify the beauty where it’s not obvious, like in those challenging situations in your life? Venus is moving through Libra from September 29 until October 23, making this a time when we can harmonize differences and balance polarity.

The Sun shines in Virgo until September 22, helping you attend to some of the more logistical aspects of your life, like organizing your schedule, planning events, or decluttering a closet. Mercury is retrograde from September 9 to October 2. Be willing to distance yourself from projects that deplete you or relationships that feel unsupportive.

You're moving into a new chapter, but in the process, change can stir up grief because it involves letting go. Breathe through the discomfort. You can choose to aim your focus on the losses or to accept the call of adventure and focus on the next steps on your path.

Romance may have hints of a Shakespearean comedy this month with Mercury retrograde in Libra. We're bound to have some communication snafus or crossed wires. You might find your relationship in a pressure-cooker situation. When you're going through those awkward moments, remember that Shakespearean comedies often end in celebrations. (Shakespeare is a fellow Taurus.) Mercury retrograde cycles do, too. In the process, we get to navigate through the shadow aspects of our psyche, which isn’t a comfortable experience, but it brings healing and renewal.

Gemini (May 20 – June 20):

Our warrior planet, Mars, has made itself at home in your sign, and it will stay there until March 2023. So, you have lots of time to think about what you are protecting and defending. What are you resisting and what are you moving towards? You might feel courageous and at the same time competitive. Use that energy to make a move, especially at the Full Moon on September 10.

Mercury is retrograde in Libra, making it a time when we're introspective, sifting through the suppressed past as it brings to light some dark places in our psyches. If you have had challenges communicating with your children, this can be a time to heal those relationships. It is also a time to problem-solve your creative projects and dating life.

One of the ongoing astrological themes of recent years has been the interplay of Saturn and Uranus. This month, their retrograde cycles bring them back into a close relationship that forces us to face decisions we have put on the back burner. The Saturn-Uranus square has highlighted your ancestry, leading to healing revelations and breakthroughs. You may have to revisit some unresolved conversations. Be willing to hear other perspectives, listening more than speaking.

Practice tuning into body language in some of your more challenging relationships; listen with your heart. Notice when you start closing off. How can you relax your body to avoid entering into an ideological stalemate? How can you raise your awareness to not focus on the minutia of a debate but rather tune into the larger myth at play?

Cancer (June 21 – July 22):

We enter a new season on September 22rd when the Sun enters Libra. Those cardinal ingresses are our points of action. They fire us up and turn our attention to what matters most.  You've been clearing the road for new beginnings for quite some time. I have a message for you presented in the form of song lyrics by U2: It's a beautiful day. Don't let it slip away.

Messenger planet Mercury goes retrograde on September 9, and it's easy to reminisce and glorify the past. But in doing so, we can sometimes miss the beauty of this present moment. Right now, be present with your loved ones, especially your family.

The Sun shines in Virgo until September 22, making this a time to bring order to the messiest places in your life. If you've been holding some resentment toward someone, there’s no need to bottle up that pain and fear. If you've been overwhelmed with your schedule, make some edits. What can you reasonably cut out to make space for things you enjoy?

Relationships could feel like a comedy of errors this month with Mercury retrograde and Mars in the mischievous sign of Gemini. When others become argumentative, take a deep breath and remind yourself that this will pass. These are the times of the year when we harvest some of our more difficult memories to separate the wheat from the chaff. Mercury Retrograde reminds us of the beauty of our evolution. We are not stagnant creatures. We are in a constant renewal process, and life gives us a chance to make things right.

You could face financial turning points with the Full Moon on September 10, like the choice to renegotiate a business partnership or solidify a new client relationship.

Mars in Gemini motivates you to sign up for group sports or to pursue a leadership position in an organization. However, with messenger Mercury going retrograde from September 9-October 2, be mindful of taking on too much at a time.

You have an expanded vision for your life with Jupiter in Aries, although the growth may feel uncomfortable. a. Resist the urge to feed self-doubt, as deep down, it may be covering up your fear of change.

With Mercury and the outer planets going retrograde, slow down the pace when you can, and give yourself time to reflect. Until October 4, you might feel more nostalgic. Communicate with clear and precise language, leaving nothing to the imagination. If you’re giving any talks or publishing speak from your heart. Delayed or canceled travel plans are another possibility. A dedicated spiritual practice that centers you in the present moment can help you restore inner peace.

The equinox on September 22 is the balance of light and dark. At the end of the month, you might strive to find equilibrium in relationships. Mercury stations retrograde on September 9, and we’re all feeling more sensitive than usual. One of your sensitive spots might be finances with Mercury in Venus-ruled Libra. Notice when fear creeps in, or you feel an urge to tighten up and restrict yourself. Can you be open to the flow of goodness in your life? Can you allow yourself to experience joy? The New Moon on September 25 invites you to let down your guard and trust. A subtle mindset shift can result in more meaningful life changes.

As the Sun enters Libra on September 22, you have a fresh perspective on how to complete projects and accomplish the bite-sized goals on your list. As Mars forms a trine aspect to Saturn on October 27, you can plant seeds of intention that will manifest over the next few years.

Libra (September 22 – October 22)

Take a deep breath and attune yourself to the element of air. Can you sense the invisible lines of communication flowing through the airwaves or Wi-Fi networks? As an air sign, you have a gift for communication. With Mercury retrograde in your sign from September 9 - October 2, you're being asked to be more conscientious about what you say and how you say it.

Mercury retrograde can have interesting implications for relationships, especially when it's in your sign. One challenge we have as Libras is questioning the past and wondering what would have happened if we did things differently.

Libra has a reputation for being indecisive. But this is far from true. You are always balancing your inner yearnings with the needs of the people in your life. Mercury retrograde brings all of this to the forefront, allowing us to understand those patterns. Plus, Mars in Gemini offers you the courage to be bold and follow your yearning, even if it doesn’t make the most sense.

Take an extra breath before you speak, read the room, and know that it's always okay to say, I don't know. Use your authentic voice.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21):

I can spend hours at the beach watching waves ebb and flow. Picture it with me now. The further back the water recedes into the belly of the ocean, the fiercer the wave that crashes against the shore. Mercury goes retrograde on September 9, and this metaphor will make more sense at that time. You’re pulled by two different impulses - one, an internal need for introspection, and the other, a sense of group mind that operates by schedules and routines. The Pisces Full Moon on September 10 highlights the tension between the two.

With Venus in Virgo, social plans come together around volunteer projects or school activities. These connections inspire a burgeoning vision, but with several planets going retrograde, now’s the time for completion rather than innovation.

Warrior planet Mars is in communicative Gemini, emboldening your speech. Beware of miscommunication, though. The truth in any conversation lives in each person’s perspective. Some details can be overlooked or incorrectly translated. Trust your instincts if you feel a hint of insincerity from someone, but be patient in deciphering the whole story.

The Sun enters Libra on September 22, and you walk the line between introversion and extroversion. The Libra New Moon on September 25 feels nostalgic. We close the month with Venus moving into Libra, whose light helps clear some of the fog.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18):
