January Horoscopes

Happy New Year! January kicks off the year — no, the decade— with a bang!! It’s a portal into a new time, and we welcome entirely new energies into our collective. Read more about your 2020 forecast here.

This month starts in between two eclipses - one on December 25/26 and the next on January 10. During eclipses, we feel a pressure cooker of dynamic energy. It can feel intense! This is a time during which we have realizations about what’s not working in our lives, what we want, and how to make significant life changes. The eclipses speed up timelines. They are also portals during which souls come and go. There can be losses, gains, exciting developments in life, and major shifts in our collective conscious.

This energy reaches a climax between January 10 - 13. These are action-packed days, astrologically speaking. The South Node, Jupiter, the Sun, Mercury, Ceres, Saturn, and Pluto will all cluster in Capricorn, the practical earth sign of authority, ambition, structure, karma, and the past.

Think. About. This. With so many lights shining on Capricorn themes, what structures in your life (beliefs, rules, power dynamics) do you need to dismantle? What can you let go of?

Capricorn is kind of like the father figure of our Zodiac. It wants to punish wrongs and celebrate rights. This is no time to act out of integrity or be your worst self. This is the time to stay determined, focused, and driven. Do not allow fear to cloud your judgment. Stay the course. Stay hopeful, too. Capricorn’s influence can be kind of a Debbie Downer. Think in realistic terms, but have faith in yourself and others.

On January 12, Saturn and Pluto conjoin in Capricorn and start a new cycle. These two planetary heavy hitters conjoin about every 34 years. We will see restructuring and transformation in the areas represented by this sign, which include:

  • Industry

  • Corporations

  • Institutions of government and religion

  • Earth and environmental matters

  • Politicians

  • Rules and rule enforcement

  • Tradition

  • Infrastructure

If you’ve been feeling down, depressed, or hopeless, you’re not alone. Between eclipses, portals open, and those can lead to choice points - to give up or keep going. I mean this in terms of projects, relationships, and even life, itself. I’ve heard so many of you in sessions in the past two months expressing things like, “I just want to give up… on life.” “I don’t know what any of this is for.” “I am not suicidal, but I don’t really care if I die.”

And to those of you who’ve had these thoughts, I say, “You matter! Don’t give up! You’re on the precipice of something great. Just wait and see.”

If you were born between April 10-14, July 12-16, October 14-18, or January 11-14, you are going to strongly feel these influences.

Because Capricorn is an earth sign, these are sensitive days for things like earthquakes, storms, and other natural occurrences. Not to mention the markets, politics, and the economy.

On January 14 and 15, Mars aspects Saturn and Pluto and gives us a little aftershock. Remain calm! Or find some way to ground and focus your energy.

After that, things smooth out, and we enter Aquarius on January 20, the sign of progress and the future. We can have a sense of where we’re headed and a clearer vision of the future. The storms are over. This energy is excellent for meeting new people, building community, and sharing ideas.

The Aquarius New Moon on January 24 really will feel like a new beginning. A fresh start. It may not feel comfortable, but new beginnings are times when we assess our circumstances and gain our bearings. January will stretch and push you in incredible ways. Stay open to what’s possible, without resisting the inevitable shifts and changes life is offering at this time.
